The Azores and Back Race Update

We are pleased to report that 17 Contessa 32 owners have submitted Expressions of Interest to take part in the AZAB, with three confirmed entrants already having secured their places in the potential starting fleet of 60 yachts.
Following recent changes to World Sailing’s Offshore Special Regulations, some owners have understandably had questions regarding eligibility requirements. We have therefore been working closely with the AZAB Organising Committee to help clarify the position of the Contessa 32.
Jeremy Rogers Ltd achieved its initial CE/RCD Category A certification on the first of its new production yachts in 1996, with every boat built since complying with Category A requirements. In addition, there has been no change to the design or construction of the Contessa 32 since production began in 1971.
Having reviewed this information, the AZAB Organising Committee has confirmed that it considers this sufficient evidence for all standard Contessa 32s to be eligible to participate in AZAB 2027 from a stability perspective.
In the words of AZAB ’27 Race Director Sarah Hancock:
“We look forward to your entries and perhaps to seeing more Contessa 32s on the start line than any other yacht type.”
We are incredibly proud to see such strong interest from the Contessa fleet and look forward to following the preparations of those planning to take part.
